Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager

Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for our modern plant on the Chemelot site in Geleen. The plant has been designated as a SEVESO establishment and an environmental permit is therefore required for the environmentally harmful activities under the Environment and Planning Act. You will report to the Plant Manager Geleen and you will be part of the local management team.

The important tasks and responsibilities are

  • Managing and ensuring compliance with the regulations in the field of Safety, Health & Safety and the Environment (Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Laws and Regulations, SEVESO III, ARIE, BREFs and internal standards). 
  • Implementation and continuous improvement of the safety and environmental management systems (NTA 8620 and ISO14001).
  • Managing external audits, visits and inspections of external stakeholders, certification bodies and government agencies.
    Maintain and build up knowledge in the field of Safety, Health & Safety and Environment.
  • Organization of the emergency response organization, including keeping the factory emergency plan up to date.
  • Analysing data and trends in the field of Safety, Health & Safety and Environment as input for the management team meetings.
  • Managing and coaching the EHS officer.
  • Is part of the Management of Change (MOC) team where the EHS manager has to advise on the risks of the potential chemical exposure to the employees and the impact on the environment.
  • Together with an EHS officer, (further) developing and implementing the EHS policy with an emphasis on remaining compliant with the relevant laws and regulations.
  • Identifying potential Safety, Health and Environment risks in the workplace and making proposals to manage these risks.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify compliance with EHS regulations and address any non-conformity.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, and make recommendations to prevent future incidents.
  • Taking the lead in advising the management team in the development and leadership of improvement plans in the field of Safety, Health & Safety, Health and Environment by translating them into concrete objectives and activities.
  • Act as a contact person; cooperate and establish good relationships with the regulatory, enforcement, government and Chemelot authorities and internal stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical or environmental sciences supplemented with an HVK education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar EHS role, within the industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and standards (SEVESO – Environment and Planning Act – ARIE – ATEX – NTA8620 and ISO14001).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with the various stakeholders.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex EHS issues.
  • Balancing between the daily hustle and bustle of a production organization and the long-term goals.
